Overview of IEC61850

IEC61850 Integration in the Management System

Desigo CC supports the integration of IEC 61850 devices. It enables Desigo CC to read data from an IEC61850 device. Desigo CC supports IEC 61850 over the Ethernet. Integrated IEC 61850 devices can be used in all common applications such as Event handling, Reporting, Online Trend.

The integration is enabled by the software component of the management station called IEC61850. The feature IEC61850 supports integration of IEC 61850 devices by providing access to the IEC61850 devices and by supervising the Fault events for IEC61850 devices of type Power Quality Monitoring (PQM) devices. It supports the IEC61850 device access by providing:

  • the IEC61850 driver to communicate with IEC61850 devices over the IEC61850 protocol.
  • harmonized workflows to integrate IE 61850 meters
  • predefined object models and functions
  • browse IEC61850 IED devices online/offline (via SCL files) and display its content

It supports the supervision of the Fault events by providing:

  • power quality Fault notification and location
  • upload of specific Power Quality reports (i.e. PQdif) for further analysis

Along with IEC61850, if you install the feature IEC61850 Power Devices 2, and add it to the project, it installs the IEC61850_Meters_HQ_2 library that provides object models such as Sicam P850, Sicam Q100 that enable you to create electrical devices such as Sicam power quality meters or Siprotec protection devices. In addition to object models, this library also provides functions, graphic templates, and library symbols that enable you to integrate the electrical devices into Desigo CC .

IEC61850 Licensing

IEC61850 is covered by a license. You must ensure that the GMS_opt_IEC61850 license is available in your system and activated. In the absence of this license, you can view the user interface, but you cannot start the IEC61850 driver and import the device connections and logical devices.
