Start the Adapter as a Windows Service

info

The use of HTTPS protocol is strongly recommended to ensure a secure communication over public networks. Failing to use HTTPS increases the vulnerability to cyberattacks when using an open or badly secured network.

Method 1 – Start the Service Using the HTTP Protocol

  1. Open the Windows Task Manager.
  2. Click the Services tab.
  3. Click Services.
  4. In the Services window, right-click Siemens.GMS.SBusAdapter and select Start.

Method 2 – Start the Service Using the HTTPS Protocol

  1. You created the self-signed certificate. For more details about certificates, in SORIS, see Secure Communication.
  2. Using the Microsoft Management Console you obtained the thumbprint needed for starting the adapter service in secure mode using the https protocol.
  1. Open Windows Task Manager.
  2. Click the Services tab.
  3. Click Services.
  4. In the Services window, right-click Siemens.GMS.SBusAdapter.
  5. Click Properties.
  6. In the Start parameters field, enter: -secure:[thumbprint] (for example,
    -secure:40f0329e31f85466cae9ec1507f7e6318589fd77).
  7. Click Start.

Method 3 – Batch Files and Advanced Start Parameters

You can also start the adapter from one of the batch files in the adapter folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Siemens\S-Bus adapter.

The command in the batch files includes the adapter parameters. In SORIS, see (Optional) Configure Adapter Windows Service.

In addition to common SORIS adapter parameters, this adapter supports the -pollingrate parameter, which defines the S-Bus datapoint update rate in milliseconds (default is 30000, that is 30 sec). This polling will only update specific points, like points with alarm configuration. For example, setting -pollingrate:10000 will result in a faster polling, every 1 sec.
